For those coming from PA & east, it would seem Amtrak would provide a
nice option.
I was curious what dates & locations had been set for future years
(I'm assuming next year is still April 30 - May 3).

The 2009 annual meeting of the PRRT&HS will be in the town of
Merrillville, IN. The hosting chapter reported that it is about 90
minutes
(commute) southeast of Chicago.
One person asked about a possible connection between the hotel and the
Chicago train station. The chapter indicated that, if there was
sufficient
interest, they might look at a bus charter.
With the price of gas, I will be pondering not being a vendor and just
taking the train out. The train could work for many
attendees...Pittsburgh, Altoona, Lewistown, Lancaster, Philadelphia,
etc.
In my case, Harrisburg to Merrillville is about 637 miles one way. My
gas
costs would easily exceed $250 (today's prices), plus hotel bills en
route.
Based on current fares, the Amtrak train would cost $240 and I wouldn't
have to drive or have hotel bills.
Westward trip (currrently) would be train 43 Harrisburg (2:36 p.m.) to
Pittsburgh (8:05 p.m.) then train 28 (11:55 p.m.) to Chicago (8:40
a.m.).
Return trip would be train 30 out of Chicago (7:05 p.m.) to Pittsburgh
(5:30 a.m.) changing to train 42 (7:20 a.m.) and arriving in
Harrisburg at
12:45 p.m.
Those east of Harrisburg would adjust accordingly, but the beauty of
it is
that the ex-PRR main line east of Pittsburgh would be all daylight!!!
How many others might seriously consider this option?
