May 8, 1946 The Pennsylvania Railroad names rebuilt Class BM70 RPO car No.
5239 "Robert
E. Hannegan" after the Postmaster General. The car is placed into service on
the "Broadway
Limited". It is the only named RPO car. BM70 rebuilds are equipped with
roller bearings and
are the first RPOs to be air conditioned.

List,
This was posted on the PENNSY WEST site. I know the "HANNEGAN" still
survives today in Altoona
but I do not ever recall seeing the equipment for air conditioning or for
that matter on any BM70 rebuild. Does anyone know if this was done on any of the
cars rebuilt at Altoona? I would think the 4 rebuilt dorm.cars into BM85 and
one BM85a at Wilmington would have AC as the previous car had AC.
