Pat,
After the Futura lettering was discontinued in 1941, new drawings were issued with the wider spacing of lettering on the tenders. Similarly, in 1941 a new
drawing was issued showing the cab numerals spaced 5 1/2" apart - on the drawing in effect before Futura appeared in 1939 the numerals were spaced
1 3/8" apart. I have copies of the cab and two tender drawings issued in 1941, should you require more specific information on K4s tenders.
I just got out the drawing for the wider spaced numerals on the cab - this was dated 7/21/1941. There is a revision stating that "Painting changed from
gold leaf on passenger locomotives to buff lettering enamel for all locomotives", with the date 10/13/1952.
The tender drawing for classes up to 130P or 130F types was dated 7/3/1941, while the drawing covering 180F type and larger was dated 7/2/1941. Both of the tender drawings have the same revision and date regarding the change from gold leaf to buff lettering.

List,
What was the approx year that the lettering scheme changed from tighly space tender lettering to the wider letter spacingon K4s? Time frame for the change from gold leaf to deluxe gold (yellow)?
Thanks,
Pat McKinney
