Pat,
I believe that the T1 valve gear were Franklin Oscillating Cam driven Poppet Valves. The cam linkages were driven from the crossheads. T1 5000 was modified and received continuous contour rotary cams driven by an eccentric crank on a driver which was geared to a rotating drive shaft that connected to the internal valve drive box. T1 5547 had her Franklin drive replaced with standard Waschaert activated piston valves and was classified T1a.
This site listed below has user adjustable, animated diagrams of many types of valve gear including Franklin Oscillating Cam, Caprotti Continuous Contour Rotary Cam and Walschaerts. Each file contains a number of types. The index lists which valve gear types are in each file. They are Zip files that need to be downloaded, un-Zipped and saved. The Franklin oscillating cam system looks like a real mechanical nightmare compared to the Capriotti Continuous Contour type.

Subject: [PRR-talk] T1 Poppet valves
List,
Were the poppet valves on the T1 Caprotti or another style of poppets?
Thanks,
Pat McKinney
