N2sa 9849 (p182 Pennsy Steam A to T) also has this tender with compressed
"Pennsylvania" lettering, and a wider doghouse. Trucks are in shadow so
can't tell if Buckeye or Commonwealth.
At least two N1sa's got the ugly "beauty" treatment: 7150 and 9997 (p179
same book); these both have the modern "bullet-backed" headlight and both
have modern J1-like markers -- claw pilot beam markers are gone. I've never
seen an N1s with coast-to-coast tender but would not be surprised if a
photo turns up; these engines did remain in a more restricted area in
northeast Ohio so long hauls may not have been a concern.
BTW, I think that the "Pennsyfied" USRA N2sa is a much more handsome engine
than the N1s/N1sa brutes.
