My 2 cents worth...
I doubt Walthers will correct the sills of the existing offset cupola car on the basis of how the mold is likely constructed. The sills as they are now done would be represented by a cavity in the mold. To correct the mold and eliminate the protruding sills/framing, Walthers would have to magically fill-in those cavities in the mold block, which I figure to be a very expensive machined chunk of something metal. This logic would also explain why Bowser cannot simply go back and re-run many of their models without the 'molded-on' grab irons. These corrections are extremely expensive simply because it requires cutting new molds, not a quick and easy process.
