I'd be interested to expand that question as to how meat reefers were  
typically mixed in trains, like NW-86 and  88,
that were predominantly reefers.  In the '50's, for instance, what  
would have been the approximate ratio between
fruit and meat?  I'm thinking significantly more fruit- maybe 4 to  
1.  Whether or not the two were mixed up or separate in a consist
probably depended on how much classification had been done for the  
final destination of cars (i.e., whether the blocking reflected more
how the PRR had received the cars, or how they were going to be  
delivered).
