Fred Ripley asked:
Did these wooden cars make it to run in consists of NF-4 and NF-6 in late
'50's early/'60's? Seems like I recall someone saying that they weren't
generally mixed w/K9's and K11's, by the time those cars arrived 1959-early
'60's.
Rich Orr replied:
K7A numbers
1956 653
1957 643
1958 106
1961 3
1962 3
1964 0
Filling in the blanks:
1/1959 106
1/1963 3

You're forgetting that the whole reason behind these rebuilt was the
introduction of fast livestock service, first as an afterthought on TT-2 and
then in dedicated trains (NF-4/NF-6). The existing cars simply couldn't
support the faster schedules. See Richard Burg's "The Last Stand of Stock
Cars in the East" in the January 1993 issue of Railroad Model Craftsman.
Finally, this is the first that I've heard of any leased cars in 1958-59 -
can you cite where you've heard or seen this?
