Folks,

In my discussions with manufacturers, the issue of the cost of
production vs price of model steam locos is a continuing subject. As
I have noted before, the costs of building steam locomotive models
has shot up recently, making the introduction of new models unlikely
unless we, the consumers, are willing to pay more. In addition, the
models will not be built if they are not fully reserved (or nearly
so).  So, with that in mind;

PLEASE RESPOND OFFLIST to smithbf[at]auburn.edu (replace the [at]
with @)
1) How many of you would be willing to reserve and pay $350 (actual
price, not list price) for a "P2K/BLI/IM quality" H10s with sound and
DCC?

2) How many engines would you buy at that price?

3) Would you be more likely to buy if you had a "price assurance" -
ie, an assurance from the manufacturer that the loco would not be
available through commercial channels (excluding private sales) for
less?

Note: As a reference, the latest BLI Loco, the NH I-5 "hybrid" was
listed at $450 and the latest Walthers steamer, the P2K USRA 2-10-2
was listed at $429.99, both with sound and DCC.

Regards
Bruce
