Jerry asked: Interesting.  I don't recall hearing about any car ferry
operations out of Erie.  Anyone have more info?


Here's a paragraph about Erie car ferries from my E&P book. "In April
1912 a car ferry slip was proposed immediately adjacent to the east face
of Dock 1. It was designed as a single-track approach, fanning out to
four tracks on a transfer bridge. The Erie Chamber of Commerce and the
Canadian Pacific Railroad proposed to operate an 88-car ferry between
Erie and Port Dover, Canada. In September of 1914 it was deferred on
account of the war and was never further progressed beyond the design
stage."

One of these days I've got to get this book finished!

Erie never had a car ferry but Ashtabula did.
