Manufacturers like AR kits are to be commended for offering models that
mainstream manufacturers would consider uneconomical to produce. THose modeling
Pennsy are fairly well off because the railroad has many followers. Another
pre-announcement debacle was Rail Classics' brass N&W H2-H2a-H3 hopper project
announced in 2002-2003; cars were to be available in single and two-piece
side configurations. I reserved over $900 worth of these in N&W early and late,
PRR, B&O and Wabash schemes through Caboose Hobbies. Three years later the
project was cancelled and I lost my reservation deposit. Fortuanately, Eastern
Car Company and BLI released plastic models which can create acceptable
models of these cars (Bob Chapman did an excellent article on modeling N&W
hoppers in N&WHS' The Arrow and later in Mainline Modeler.) The bottom line is
that new brass freight car models are rare in a shrinking market due to all of
the high quality plastic RTR and resin kits available now.
