[PRR-talk] Manufacturers' responses - support for ARKits and others

Manufacturers like AR kits are to be commended for offering models that  
mainstream manufacturers would consider uneconomical to produce. THose modeling  
Pennsy are fairly well off because the railroad has many followers. Another  
pre-announcement debacle was Rail Classics' brass N&W H2-H2a-H3  hopper project 
announced in 2002-2003; cars were to be available in  single and two-piece 
side configurations.  I reserved over $900 worth of  these in N&W early and late, 
PRR, B&O and Wabash schemes through Caboose  Hobbies. Three years later the 
project was cancelled and I lost my  reservation deposit. Fortuanately, Eastern 
Car Company and BLI released plastic  models which can create acceptable 
models of these cars (Bob Chapman did an  excellent article on modeling N&W 
hoppers in N&WHS' The Arrow and later  in Mainline Modeler.)  The bottom line is 
that new brass freight car models  are rare in a shrinking market due to all of 
the high quality plastic RTR and  resin kits available now.
