[PRR-talk] Question about radio use in the 1960's

After trainphones were replaced by the more conventional radios, would train crews be able to talk to a dispatcher ? Did PRR install the necessary relay equipment that allowed them to talk to somebody distant, or were they limited to communicating with the nearest tower, and of course the crew on the other end of the train ? I'm assuming if a crew was in a remote area, for instance south of Safe Harbor on the C&PD, they'd still need to call on a lineside phone if they needed a special authority to do something.
