O scale patterns are underway for a resin cast kit of the ubiquitous GRa gon. This is a post-1943 car, i. e., no stake pockets on the car sides. To back-date the car, shim brass stake pockets can easily be added.
There will be four castings in the kit - 1) a complete body casting with car sides attached to the deck. 2) a pair of detached drop ends that when installed will be operable. 3) an underframe that drops into the underside of the body. The underframe is set up for Kadee 804 and 805 couplers and Athearn trucks. A .030" space is provided between the underframe and the car body so that the builder can insert a .030" brass, steel, or lead sheet weight. The builder adds paint, decals, couplers, grabs, brake staff, brake components, and trucks.
Both RTR and car kits will be marketed through St. Charles Model Works in the first quarter, 2008. Please contact Terry Wellman after the first of the year at scmodelworks at illicom.net for kit pricing and availability.
Happy Holidays,
Tom Houle
